Mutharika commits to regional development
President Peter Mutharika has stated that the Malawi Government is dedicated to fostering regional and continental integration initiatives that aim to enhance the quality of life for individuals throughout Africa while generating opportunities for inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
Mutharika expressed these views upon receiving Letters of Credence from Hilda Suka Mafudze, the African Union Southern Africa Regional Office (AU-SARO) Representative, at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
He emphasized that Malawi cherishes its strong relationship with the African Union, especially with AU-SARO, noting that the appointment of the AU-SARO envoy has further solidified these connections.
The President also committed to providing full support to AU-SARO.
“As you take on your responsibilities in this region, you can count on the complete cooperation and backing of the Government and people of Malawi in carrying out your duties,” Mutharika stated, adding, “We are inspired by the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and reaffirm our willingness to contribute significantly towards ‘The Africa We Want.’
He mentioned that Malawi has adapted the continental vision through Malawi 2063, a national goal aimed at transforming the country into an industrialized, upper-middle-income nation by 2063.
The President also conveyed his confidence in the AU-SARO envoy’s term, asserting that it will further enhance the friendly relations between Malawi and the African Union in key areas such as agriculture and food security; climate change mitigation; trade and investment; education and capacity building; and peace and security.
“I strongly believe that the African Union serves as a foundation for our continent’s collective progress, offering not just a framework for shared growth, but also a vibrant platform to unlock socioeconomic opportunities that empower our youth,” Mutharika remarked.
He further added: “Through a unified purpose, coordinated policies, and a spirit of solidarity, the African Union.
