Parliament seeking to review MBC Director General appointment process

A meeting between the Parliamentary Public Appointments Committee (Pac) and the board of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation regarding the recruitment process for the position of director general has been postponed to Saturday in Salima.

Pac vice-chairperson Joshua Malango notified committee members of this change shortly after the commencement of today’s session at the Parliament Building in Lilongwe.

“We have been informed that the MBC Board will not be available today due to other commitments, and the meeting has therefore been rescheduled to Saturday in Salima,” stated Malango.

The committee is anticipated to receive an update on the procedures and criteria utilized by the board in the recruitment of an MBC director general.

This alteration has, in the meantime, led to speculation in certain circles, with rumors suggesting potential attempts to diminish public and media scrutiny surrounding the issue, although this could not be independently confirmed at this time.
