Man arrested for sex with a girl ten years younger

Police in Mzuzu have apprehended 27-year-old Jafali Pawudala on charges of engaging in sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old girl.

Pawudala, a resident of Mputa Village in the Traditional Authority Nankhumba area of Mangochi District, is accused of committing the act on Tuesday within Mzuzu City.

“The victim is a student, and on that day, she was on her way to school for afternoon classes. While en route, she encountered the suspect riding his bicycle near Katoto Primary School,” stated Edson Chipeni, the Assistant Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police Station.

He further explained, “The suspect requested her assistance in holding his bicycle. During this interaction, he allegedly claimed to be a prophet and told her that she had been bewitched and would soon die, urging her to accompany him to his home to receive anointing oil for her protection.”

Chipeni reported that upon reaching his residence, Pawudala began administering charms to the victim and subsequently assaulted her.

“After returning home, the victim informed her mother, who then took her to Mzuzu Police Station.

There, she received a referral letter to Mzuzu Central Hospital for a medical examination and treatment.

The results confirmed that sexual intercourse had taken place,” he added.

In the meantime, Chipeni indicated that Pawudala is expected to appear in court shortly to face charges of engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor.
