150 Malawians arrive today from South Africa
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation says the initial two buses, transporting 150 Malawians as part of the Voluntary Repatriation Exercise, from South Africa are expected to arrive today.
A statement by the ministry indicates that this group consists of foreign nationals who had been displaced and were residing in temporary camps in Mossel Bay, Western Cape Province.
The statement further clarified that the evacuation and voluntary return process was managed by a multidisciplinary Malawi Task Team that was sent to the Western Cape, under the direction of the Malawi High Commission in South Africa.
It mentions that the returnees are traveling by road through Zimbabwe and Mozambique, with plans to enter Malawi via the Mwanza Border Post on Monday, June 8, 2026.
“Upon their arrival, they will head to Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre for processing before being taken to their respective home areas,” part of the statement reads.
