Own medicine: Prison warder arrested for rape
Police in Kasungu have arrested a prison warder identified as Benson Mbalame on allegations of defiling a 6-year-old girl in Linyangwa by later silencing her with MK2,000.
As per the statement from Central East Police Region spokesperson Esther Mkwanda, the girl was following a friend when she came across Mbalame, who reportedly exploited the situation and committed the crime.
The accused is also alleged to have given the child K2000 in an effort to bribe her into silence.
The incident was uncovered when the girl’s parents observed that she was having difficulty walking.
Upon questioning, she revealed the details about Mbalame, and a subsequent medical examination confirmed the defilement. Mbalame is currently in custody at Kasungu Police Station and is anticipated to appear in court shortly.
This arrest follows the recent detention of two teachers in Kasungu for similar offenses involving minors.
