Authorities set sights on ending abuse on the elderly

Authorities will use tomorrow to discuss strategies to address the abuses faced by the elderly in the country.

This comes as the nation prepares to observe the 2026 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day at Kaphatenga Primary School grounds in the area of Senior Chief Salima in Salima District.

As stated in a press release from the Ministry of Gender, the event will be led by Minister Mary Thom Navich and will gather stakeholders, development partners, the media, and members of the public.

Additionally, this year’s commemoration will be centered around the theme “Beyond Awareness: Making Elder Abuse Prevention Work,” highlighting the importance of not just acknowledging elder abuse but also focusing on the implementation of effective prevention and response strategies.

The ministry has urged all stakeholders and the general public to engage in the event and collaborate to eliminate all forms of abuse and exploitation affecting older individuals in the country.
