Authorities on drive to install CCTV cameras in prisons

The Malawi Prison Service (MPS) has announced the installation of CCTV cameras at Chichiri Prison in Blantyre, with plans to extend this initiative to other prisons shortly.

According to MPS spokesperson Steve Meke, the purpose of these cameras is to enhance security within the prison facilities.

Security expert Marcel Chirwa has praised this initiative, although he believes it is a delayed response, suggesting that earlier implementation could have aided in identifying the smuggling of SIM cards and mobile phones into the prison cells.
