Chief Malemia convicted for rape
The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Zomba has convicted Senior Chief Malemia of rape and of giving money to a girl to procure an abortion.
The court ruled that the evidence presented by the girl and her father proved that a sexual relationship existed between the two.
Among other things, the girl told the court that she experienced pain during their first sexual encounter but that she later enjoyed the encounters, adding that they had sexual intercourse about four times a month.
The magistrate also found credible evidence that the chief obtained abortion medication from Hope Private Hospital.
The court said this was supported by evidence from hospital and the complainant.
