Malawi set for maiden Wafcon

Malawi Women’s National Football Team coach Lovemore Fazili has named a 23-member final squad for the 2026 WAFCON finals in Morocco later this month.

The squad is led by captain Tabitha Chawinga and also includes Temwa Chawinga, Asimenye Simwaka, Rose Kabzere, Faith Chimzimu and Chimwemwe Madise.

Fazili has cut eight players from camp. Among those dropped are Mary Chavinda, Lyna James and Thoko Mwase.

This will be the Scorchers’ maiden appearance at the continental showpiece.

The tournament runs from 26 July to 16 August 2026 in Morocco.

Malawi are in Group C alongside Nigeria, Egypt and Zambia.

– *28 July 2026*: Nigeria vs Malawi

– *1 August 2026*: Egypt vs Malawi _Moulay Hassan Stadium.

– *5 August 2026*: Malawi vs Zambia _Al Madina Stadium.

Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
