Suspected thief arrested in Zomba

Police in Zomba have arrested a 19-year-old man, Charles M’bona, for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing property worth K1.7 million at Matawale Township in the city.

According to Zomba Police Station spokesperson Andrew Mwale, the suspect allegedly broke into the house after the owner had travelled to Blantyre while a domestic worker left the premises to attend church.

Mwale said when the domestic worker returned, they found the house had been broken into and several items, including a plasma television and shoes, had been stolen. While searching for the suspect, the worker reportedly spotted him hiding in an unfinished house nearby.

The domestic worker then alerted members of the public, who helped apprehend the suspect before handing him over to police.
