Elephant kills man in Ntcheu

A 43 year old man, identified as Chiunguza Henderson, has died following an attack and trampling by an elephant in Zalengela 1 Village, located in the area of Traditional Authority Ganya of Ntcheu District.

Inspector Jacob Khembo, the Public Relations Officer for Ntcheu Police, reported that the incident took place on July 19, 2026, when three elephants were seen wandering near Chimphuno Hills. This prompted the deployment of game rangers to guide them back to the Thuma Forest Reserve.

Khembo explained that the elephants became agitated as some local residents gathered in groups and provoked them during the escort back to the forest. One of the elephants charged at Chiunguza, inflicting multiple injuries, and he was declared dead upon arrival at Sharpvale Health Centre.
