Malawi Parliament host Commonwealth meet
Parliament of Malawi is expected to host more than 300 delegates from across Africa when it stages the 55th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region Conference and Annual General Meeting from 9 to 16 August 2026 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
The conference will be held under the theme, “Renewing the Social Contract: Parliaments as Catalysts for Inclusive Growth and Citizen Trust,” bringing together Speakers and Presiding Officers, Deputy Speakers, Members of Parliament, Clerks of Parliament, Secretaries General, parliamentary staff and accompanying officials from across the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Africa Region.
The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, 12 August 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Bingu International Convention Centre, marking the start of discussions on democratic governance, legislative effectiveness, parliamentary oversight, peace, sustainable development and regional cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Africa Region comprises 63 national and sub-national legislatures from Commonwealth countries across the African continent.
It’s annual conference provides a platform for parliamentarians and parliamentary officials to exchange ideas and share solutions to challenges facing legislatures.
