Terrible accident sees two deaths
Authorities have confirmed that two people have died while 21 others have sustained injuries following a road accident that occurred today on along the Limbe–Zomba Road near Sable Farming.
Limbe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Demetria Banda said the accident involved a Mazda Bongo minibus, registration number KK 6184, and a Mazda Demio saloon, registration number KK 8371.
Meanwhile, Banda said the minibus, driven by Charles Mathewe, was carrying 18 passengers from Njuli to the Chiradzulu Turn-off, while the Mazda Demio was carrying five people from the Chiradzulu Turn-off to Njuli.
According to Banda, the driver of the minibus attempted to overtake another vehicle near Sable Farming and, in the process, collided head-on with the oncoming Mazda Demio.As a result, the minibus driver sustained a fractured right leg while his passengers suffered various injuries.
The driver of the Mazda Demio, whose identity has not yet been established, and one passenger died upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).
