American man fined for landing plane in Malawi
The Blantyre Magistrate’s Court has ordered an American citizen, Terry Lee Jenningson, to pay a K3 million fine or serve one year in prison for landing an aircraft at Chileka (Bakili Muluzi) International Airport without the required authorization.
Police public relations Officer for the Eastern Region, Beatrice Mikuwa, said that Jenningson, who was piloting an aircraft from South Africa, was arrested on Wednesday after landing at the airport in violation of aviation regulations.
In delivering the ruling, Magistrate Paul Chiotcha ordered Jenningson to pay the K3 million fine or face a one-year jail term.
Meanwhile, Jenningson has paid the fine, and the aircraft was later cleared to depart.
The aircraft had flown to Malawi to pick up a family that had been on holiday and transport them to Portugal.
