Woman in police cell over theft

Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 25-year-old woman for reportedly acquiring various items valued at K363,000 from a local businesswoman using fraudulent payment screenshots.

Khumbo Sanyiwa, the deputy public relations officer at Lilongwe Police Station, stated that the suspect, identified as Judith Phiri, ordered and received multiple items, including pots, while sending counterfeit screenshots that indicated successful bank payments to the owner’s account on three separate occasions.

Sanyiwa mentioned that upon reviewing her account transactions, the victim realized that the payments had not been processed, prompting her to report the incident to the police.

“Lilongwe Police have since taken Phiri into custody, and all items allegedly acquired through these fraudulent transactions have been recovered,” Sanyiwa added.
