Macra to probe data bundle complaints

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has launched an investigation into concerns over the rapid depletion of mobile data bundles on TNM and Airtel Malawi networks.

MACRA says it is assessing the operators’ data charging and billing systems, data usage records and the accuracy of deductions from customers’ data bundles.

According to the regulator, the investigation aims to establish the factors contributing to the concerns and determine whether any regulatory intervention is required.

MACRA has urged consumers who have experienced unusually rapid depletion of their data bundles to report the matter.

Consumers have also been encouraged to provide supporting evidence, including bundle purchase notifications, data usage alerts, screenshots, dates and times of incidents and other relevant records.

Meanwhile, the regulator, says it will communicate the outcome of the investigation once the exercise is concluded.
