Man kills father for denying him marriage plans

Police in Mchinji have arrested 21-year-old Gerald Moffat for allegedly murdering his 42-year-old father, Moffat Majamu Banda, following a disagreement over his intention to marry his cousin.

It is alleged that Moffat had impregnated his cousin and wanted to marry her, a move his father strongly opposed.

Mchinji Police Deputy Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Susan Mchekeya, said the father ordered his son to leave the house after he insisted on proceeding with the marriage.

The suspect reportedly became enraged and struck his father twice on the head with a hoe handle, leaving him unconscious.

A postmortem conducted at Mchinji District Hospital established that Banda died due to head injuries sustained during the assault.

The suspect hails from Msampha Village, under Traditional Authority Mabvwere in Mchinji.
