Mabedi to walk away 53 Million Kwacha richer
The Industrial Relations Court (IRC) has ordered the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to pay former Flames coach Patrick Mabedi MK53 Million as compensation for his wrongful firing as mentor of the team.
This decision was made by Deputy Chairperson Whyson Nkhata on May 25, 2026.
“The Respondent is required to pay the total sum of MK53,686,500.00 to the Applicant within seven days from the date of this ruling. Any party that is not satisfied with this ruling has the right to appeal to the High Court within thirty days from the date of this ruling,” the judgement states.
Mabedi’s lawyer, David Kanyenda, confirmed the ruling today.
However, Kanyenda noted that additional details would be provided later.
Initially, Mabedi had requested MK916 million from the association as compensation for his unfair dismissal.
FAM ended Mabedi’s contract in October 2024, just 11 months into his two-year contract, citing a failure to meet performance targets.
