Fam to return ticket money

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has confirmed that it will reimburse fans who bought tickets for the cancelled 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match between Malawi and Equatorial Guinea.

In a press release issued today, FAM stated that ticket holders with unredeemed tickets will qualify for refunds due to the match’s cancellation, which was set to take place on 18 October 2025 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The match was called off just five hours before kick-off after Equatorial Guinea notified FAM and FIFA that their team would not be traveling to Malawi.

FAM indicated that refunds for online ticket purchases will be credited directly to the mobile wallets used for payment, while holders of physical tickets are requested to visit FAM offices at Bingu National Stadium between 2 and 4 June for ticket validation and processing.

Additionally, the association has provided fans with the option to use their tickets for the Flames’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches scheduled for September 2026 instead of opting for refunds.

FAM mentioned that this decision comes after an internal review of the situation and aims to ensure fair treatment for supporters impacted by the cancellation.
