Mwanza Stadium now reception for South Africa retunees

Malawians returning from South Africa due to xenophobic attacks will now be received and processed at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium in Mwanza, following the relocation of the reception centre, authorities say.

In a press release issued today, the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) said the centre has been moved from Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre to Mwanza to bring services closer to the border and improve the efficiency of the repatriation process.

According to the department, the new facility will serve as a one-stop centre where returnees will access immigration clearance, registration, health screening, and humanitarian assistance upon arrival.

DODMA has also deployed processing teams and relief supplies to Mwanza to support the exercise.

Meanwhile, returnees will be provided with transport assistance from Mwanza to their respective home districts after completing the necessary procedures.
