“Power blackouts to be reduced in Malawi”

People in the country should expect a reduce in load shedding as the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM)has signed a transmission connection agreement with Press Energy Limited ( PEL) for a 50- Megawatt solar project.

The new agreement follows the power purchase agreement signed by the two parties in December 2024, which created the way for the development of 50-Megawatt solar plant.

Speaking during the signing ceremony Escom Chief Executive Officer William Kaipa said the agreement is another important step towards fulfilling the corporation promise to improve electricity in the country within eight months.

Meanwhile, Press Corpation Limited Chief Executive Officer, Ronald Mangani welcomed the partnership and thanked ESCOM for speeding up the signing.

The investment reflect the Company’s commitment to support Malawi’s economic growth and improving the lives of Malawians through increased access to reliable electricity.

The project is expected to strengthen Malawi’s power generation capacity, improve energy security, and support the country’s long-term social and economic development.
