Four arrested over K150 Million iron sheet theft in Lilongwe
Police in Lilongwe have arrested four men in connection with the theft of iron sheets worth K150 million from Kingsteel Malata in Area 47.
Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu said the suspects overpowered three security guards, dismantled the CCTV system, broke into the warehouse, and stole the iron sheets.
The crime is believed to have occurred on June 28, 2026, at around 1:00 a.m.
The suspects have been identified as Paul Joseph, 26, a forklift operator at the company; Gift Hallowaya, 33; Leonard Matiasi, 34; and Kennedy Wizard, 49, a truck driver.
“Following investigations, police first arrested the company’s forklift operator. He admitted to using the forklift to load the stolen iron sheets onto a truck and later led investigators to the other suspects,” Chigalu said.
Police say the driver told his employer the truck’s horse had been involved in an accident. In reality, it had been hired to transport the stolen property.
