Two men die at Kombucha Factory
Malawi Data News has learnt that two employees of a Kombucha beverage manufacturing company situated at the Njewa Industrial site in Lilongwe have died after they drowned in a septic tank while trying to clear a blockage.
The two have been identified as 23-year-old Feedson Thunga and Jamison Lewis, whose complete details are still being confirmed.
Police Publicist Hastings Chigalu says that both individuals were working as general laborers at the company, with Thunga tasked specifically with unblocking a septic tank.
During this process, he is said to have become trapped inside the tank and subsequently drowned.
Upon realizing that his colleague was in trouble, Lewis jumped into the septic tank in a bid to save him.
Regrettably, he too was overwhelmed and could not escape.
Other workers eventually succeeded in retrieving both men from the septic tank, but it was too late, as they had already lost their lives.
In response to the incident, detectives from the Lilongwe Police Station arrived at the location and began an investigation.
The bodies were later transported to the Kamuzu Central Hospital mortuary, where postmortem examinations are anticipated to determine the precise cause of death.
Thunga was from Njonja Village, under Traditional Authority Machete in Dedza District.
The home details of Lewis are still pending verification.
