South Africa’s anti illegal migrant leader Andile shot dead

The March and March Movement has condemned the killing of one of its leaders, Andile Mvuyelwa Somgxada, who died after being shot in Greenfields, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng Province.

The movement has called on South African authorities to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

According to a statement issued today on Monday, Somgxada was shot while leaving his home on July 4.

He was rushed to hospital where he received treatment before succumbing to his injuries on July 9.

The movement claims the killing comes amid reports that several of its leaders have been receiving threats.

It alleges that some of the threats are linked to individuals involved in extortion and the collection of protection fees from illegal businesses.

The group also said its regional leader in Tshwane recently received warning messages following a march held in Mamelodi.

It added that similar threats have been reported in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga Province.

Meanwhile, the March and March Movement has urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, warning that the killing could increase tensions in affected communities if those responsible are not held accountable.
