Fuel prices ‘drop’ in Malawi

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has reduced the pump price of diesel and kerosene for August, while maintaining the price of Petrol.

According to a statement signed by MERA Chief Executive Officer Lucas Kondowe, diesel will now be selling at K5,863 per litre, down from K6,306 per litre.

This represents a 7.02 percent price reduction.

However, the price of petrol has remained unchanged and will continue to sell at K5,619 per litre.

Meanwhile, the price of kerosene has also been reduced by 8 percent, from K4,771 per litre to K4,389 per litre.

MERA said the price reduction follow a review of import costs, including fuel procurement, insurance, road freight rates and taxes, among other factors, for July 2026.

The new fuel prices will take effect from 1 August 2026.
