Ekhaya, Wanderers share 12 Million Kwacha from ticket sales
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that the Airtel Top 8 Cup final between Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC has generated a revenue of K87.3 million.
The match was held at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe yesterday with Ekhaya FC defeating Wanderers 2-1 to become the new champions of the cup.
FAM’s Head of Marketing, Mayamiko Kafwamba, says that, of the revenue, Wanderers and Ekhaya teams will each receive K12.6 million.
According to Kafwamba, the same-day ticket sales system was effective as there were no fraudulent tickets.
However, Kafwamba said that a small number of people, who entered the stadium by climbing the fence or drilling the wire that surrounded the stadium, did occur.
They said FAM will continue to consult with relevant agencies, including security, to find ways to resolve the issue as the Flames prepare to play South Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations in September.
