Man pays 700 thousand Kwacha for causing death
The Nkhunga First Grade Magistrate’s Court has found driver Arison Chikuse (54) guilty and imposed a fine of K700,000 for causing a death due to reckless driving while operating an uninsured vehicle in Nkhotakota.
The court was informed that on February 25, 2026, at Tingathe Private Secondary School along the Maliwa earth road in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota District, Chikuse was driving a Hino tipper with registration number NS 6788 on a public road when his reckless driving resulted in the death of Harrison Fatsani. Additionally, the incident caused a severe injury to 14-year-old Fatness Fatsani, who suffered a deep cut on her right leg.
Magistrate Kingsley Buleya, presiding over the case, found Chikuse guilty based on his own admission and imposed fines of K300,000 for the first charge, K300,000 for the second charge, and K100,000 for the third charge, all with custodial alternatives amounting to a total of 24 months.
The court also ordered compensation of K250,000 for the family of the deceased and K250,000 for the injured girl, to be deducted from the total fine.
Chikuse has already settled the full amount of K700,000.
