Over 6 million children receive polio vaccine
The Ministry of Health and Sanitation says that it has successfully vaccinated around 6.6 million children during the recent nationwide polio vaccination initiative.
The ministry has labeled this achievement a success, having exceeded the original goal of 6.2 million, resulting in a coverage rate of 106 percent.
In a public announcement, the ministry credited this accomplishment to the collaborative efforts of health workers, volunteers, and teachers, whose teamwork facilitated extensive access to the vaccine.
The campaign targeted children under 10 years old and was initiated following a confirmed case of polio in Blantyre earlier this year.
Health officials state that this outcome bolsters the nation’s initiatives to prevent further transmission and safeguard children from the disease.
